Clearing Your Brain of Toxins
Nov 15, 2021The human brain, like the rest of the body, has to clear any debris or substances that may have entered into the central nervous system. This has been taught by traditional yoga teachers and Ayurvedic doctors for several thousand years.
According to this theory, people who attain deep sleep between 9pm and 11pm experience the full detoxification process of the brain.
Recent scientific research has led to discussions about the "glymphatic system". It is a waste clearance system that promotes the efficient elimination of soluble proteins and metabolites from the central nervous system.
The glymphatic system also facilitates brain-wide distribution of several compounds, including glucose, lipids, amino acids, growth factors, and neuromodulators. The glymphatic system function mainly during sleep and is largely disengaged during wakefulness.
In other words, getting proper sleep at the appropriate times will reduce the prospect of brain diseases, especially as you get older. The accumulation of toxins in the brain leads to brain fog, emotional instability and inflammation in the brain, a precursor to Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
